Technical Author – Enschede (Hybrid) – ALTEN

The Position

As part of our continued growth, we are looking for Technical Authors to join our team and contribute to ongoing client projects.

As a technical author your main tasks will include:

• Being responsible for all customer-oriented technical documentation.
• Developing technical user documentation for our high-tech products.
• Collecting technical information, researching technical specifications, and consulting specialists across the organization.
• Testing procedures on actual systems to ensure accuracy.
• Writing and maintaining clear, concise text for Operator Manuals, Maintenance Manuals, and System Manuals in S1000D/XML format.
• Collaborating closely with internal departments to ensure documentation reflects current product configurations.
• Ensuring compliance with the S1000D documentation standard and other relevant regulations.
• Contributing to the continuous improvement of authoring processes and documentation quality.

Your Profile

• Dutch security clearance is required due to work in the defense sector. Only candidates who meet government eligibility requirements for this screening will be considered.
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or a relevant technical field.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in technical authoring, preferably in an industrial or defense-related context.
• Knowledge and experience with industry standards such as S1000D or DITA is a plus.
• Knowledge/experience in the field of Simplified Technical English (STE) is a plus.
• Strong technical background in electrical and/or mechanical engineering.
• Ability to interpret and explain complex systems and procedures clearly and accurately.
• Experience in the naval or military industry is an advantage.
• Knowledge of structured data documentation (XML) and experience with CSDB/CMS.
• Experience with authoring tools such as WebX (preferred), Arbortext, Oxygen XML Editor, or AuthorIT.
• Ability to lead documentation projects from start to finish.
• Ability to work independently, take initiative, and collaborate effectively in a team.
